A Tribute to My Mom: The Woman Who Inspired My Journey
My Mom, Pamela Schroeder, on her wedding day September 17, 1977 (I wish she kept that dress and veil, but apparently she turned it into a table cloth).
A Journey of Love and Adventure
Have you ever met someone whose unwavering spirit and passion for life inspire you to chase your dreams? For me, that person is my mom. Her love for travel and commitment to hard work not only opened doors to incredible experiences but also shaped the very core of who I am today.
The Seed of Adventure
My mother was a trailblazer in the airline industry. Beginning her career as a gate agent for American Airlines while raising nine children—some still very young—she worked her way up to Admirals Club Manager and ultimately into an executive role. Her commitment and integrity extended beyond her job; she orchestrated events like the March of Dimes Walk, making a real difference in our community and creating lasting family memories.
Because of her work, my siblings and I had the incredible opportunity to travel the world together. I especially treasure our family singing during trips around Luxembourg—even performing for the Grand Duchy (a story for another day!). Each journey was a new adventure, introducing us to cultures and perspectives that shaped my own desire to explore the world with curiosity and care.

Becoming a Flight Attendant: Her Encouragement
During my early college years, I felt directionless and unsure of my path—not wanting to continue funding a degree I didn’t believe in. It was then that my mom’s unwavering faith in me became my anchor. She gently suggested I consider becoming a flight attendant, something I initially saw as temporary. I told myself, “Just one year.”
Little did I know that 21 years later, I’d still be flying. I can still hear the sound of her voice on the other end of the line during training in Dallas, when I called her crying—worried I wouldn’t make it, unsure how I’d even afford groceries. The starting pay and expectations for flight attendants were borderline unjust. But she reminded me of my strength, helping me see that even small beginnings can lead to purpose-filled paths.
Her belief in me helped me reclaim agency over my life. Her emotional strength and encouragement throughout those difficult weeks were essential, reminding me of my ability to complete training and earn my wings!
The Woman I Am Today: Independence and Strength
Through her example, I learned that independence, intention, and resilience are not only important—they’re non-negotiable. She taught me that dreams aren’t indulgent, they’re vital. That success isn’t measured by titles, but by how much of yourself you bring into what you do.
Today, I help other women uncover their own leadership style through Maven—encouraging them to tune out the noise, reconnect to purpose, and lead from within. My mom’s quiet strength gave me that foundation. She led me home to myself.

A Tribute to All Mothers and Those Who Miss Them
As we celebrate the beauty of motherhood, I want to take a moment to honor those who have lost their mothers, those who may not have had a maternal figure in their lives, and those who long to be mothers but face their own struggles.
I believe motherhood comes in many forms. The love, care, and belief we receive—whether from mothers, mentors, or chosen family—can shape us in profound ways. At Maven, we honor all of it. The joy, the ache, the resilience it takes to show up in this world with an open heart.
A Lasting Legacy
To my mom, thank you for being my guiding star and for inspiring me to embrace life’s adventures. For inspiring me to embrace life’s adventures with heart, humor, and intention. Your strength and love paved the way for everything I do.
Because of you, I live with purpose. I lead with heart. And I try every day to help others do the same.
Happy Mother’s Day!
